Old Hungarian men playing chess. (could've lived without seeing them in speedos)
In Budapest we stayed in this hostel called colors. It was really nice and the people were friendly. Budapest is really beautiful, I really didn't know what was there until I went but I'm glad I did. The bus ride to Budapest was 8 hours, so fun, and when we got into town we took a taxi to our hostel but we thought he hustled us because he dropped us off like 5 blocks away from it, I'm still not sure why he did that. When we got to the hostel we immediately headed to the baths. SO FUN. We went to this one, it has 3 giant pools all warm and one has a whirl pool, one you can do laps in and one has chess board on the side so you can play chess. We stayed there for a few hours and then went home to change and go out to eat. We ended up eating at this place that had live gypsy music which was fun. We went to bed early and the next day we wanted to do this free walking tour, so the advertisement said to meet on the corner of Aurora (well there are 4 corners there) and we had to look for them. The walk was supposed to start at 11 and it got to be 11:10 so we figured IF there was a walking tour it definitely left without us. So we found this hop on/hop off tour on one of the corners and bought tickets. Then we turned around and there was the walking tour. Still waiting. They wouldn't refund our tickets so we had to go on the hop on/hop off tour which wasn't bad, just not free. We saw Buda castle, and I held a GIANT bird. It weighed at least 20 pounds. We also saw hero square, parliament, one of the largest synagogues, and the most popular shopping street. The bus took us all around budapest which was nice so I feel like we got to see a lot. After that we went to dinner at a Hungarian restaurant and had THE best food. We got the Hungarian platter which is basically 4 different types of meat (SOO good) and rice and THE best potatoes they just melt in your mouth, and this amazing sauce to put on top of it. One of the best meals I've had in a while. Also dinner came with "happy hour" it was buy one GIANT beer get the second GIANT beer free. SO of course we did that, and granted I don't like beer but it was cheap, and I drank all of it. After that me and Clarke decided to stay out while the rest went back to the hostel. We went to this bar and got a drink and sat down where the DJ was playing (three drinks in). We made friends with the DJ pretty quick because he was playing American music, and these guys who were studying in Spain but who were originally from Mexico came to talk to us. After a while the DJ let us start picking out the music and buying us drinks (5 drinks in). And our friends from Mexico were buying us Guiness as well (6 drinks in). We DJed for about 3 or 4 hours when it was time for the bar to close. When we left it was about 3am and we had to get up for a bus at 530am.....mhm. SO we get home go to sleep wake up two hours later and either I was still drunk or at the beginning stages of hungover because I didn't feel too bad but I did feel something. It took us about an hour to get to the bus and by that time I was definitely hung over. Clarke and I sat next to each other on the bus, and I had wanted to get something to eat before I left but we didn't have time so all I had in my stomach was water....and probably ALL the beer from the night before. Needless to say an 8 hour bus ride was too long for how I felt and I ended throwing up on the bus...and on Clarke. haha. Thank god all I had was water, and thank god I'm a quiet puker because only one lady noticed haha. Anyways that was probably the most painful bus ride of my life, and I will never go out the night before a trip again. Hopefully. But all in all it was a great trip, we got to see and do a lot and Budapest is BEAUTIFUL. Loved it.
Next Stop road tripping through Ireland =)
