So the last few days have been pretty busy and interesting, but I've been exhausted because we've had no time to adjust to the jet lag. The past two days we've had mandatory trips with our school, and yesterday we went to a chateau and the Skoda (pronounced shhh-ko-dah) automobile factory and museum. The chateau was pretty but definitely not amazing or maybe it's because I'd only gotten 5 hours of sleep. We had to wear these giant slippers over our shoes when we went in, and we had a guide who didn't speak English and read from a script every time we went into a room. And asking her a question was useless, because she had no idea about anything if it wasn't written in the script. After that we went to a pub to have lunch and I had chicken with blue cheese, soooooooo good. Then we headed off the to Skoda factory, where I think years were taken off my life because of how boring it was...The chateau wasn't exactly amazing, but this factory and museum was so insanely boring. We went on a tour of the factory, we got to see where they built the dashboard and watch the cars go down the assembly-line and then the guide started talking about the benefits of the workers and how many hours they worked. I don't know if I was just tired, but this was the last thing I wanted to do. THEN came the museum, which was beyond boring. A man who didn't speak very good English talked about every car, it's name, why it had its name, the engine, and everything about the engine. I'm not really into cars in the first place, so even though he was speaking English I didn't understand a word he said. Then after the 3 hour tour, we had to watch an hour movie about the EXACT same thing the guide on the tour just told us. Needless to say I fell asleep along with the other 30 people. When it was over we literally ran to the bus. When we got back we napped and then decided to go out because we haven't all week because we've been too tired. We wanted to go to this place called the Roxy which is supposed to be fun, but it was closed and we ended up going to a bar nearby called Harley's that turned out to be a mainly American bar (Harley Davidson). Lots of American people, but it was so expensive. We got to bed pretty late, and this morning I definitely regretted going out even though it was super fun.
Today's trips were to the Church of St. Clement, Melnik Castle also called Nelahozeves Castle (don't ask me why..) and to the winery in Melnik for wine tasting. Today's trip was definitely better than yesterdays. The church was just a quick stop on our way to the castle, but it was pretty scenery. The castle tour was fun and interesting, but I've never been so cold in my life. The cement walls held in all the cold air, and the tour lasted about 2 and half hours so by the time it came to an end I couldn't feel my face. The winery was the best part though. The guide took us on a tour of the cellars that are no longer used for wine making, they've found a new location. And then we sat down and they let us try two of their most popular wines, one white and one red. The setting was nice because we were all in the cellar sitting on benches next to the barrels and he was at a table talking by candlelight. I ended buying the red wine (my first alcoholic purchase ever haha.) for only about 100kc which is 5 dollars. I call that a good purchase. =) We just got back a few hours ago and tomorrow is some orientation stuff but nothing too interesting. I leave for Moravia on Friday morning and then Czech language classes start on monday. Hopefully some of it will sink in, because so far this is all I have:

Prosim-please/you're welcome
Dobre den-Hello
Ahoy-Hello
Pivo (Pee-vo)-beer
Dekuji (day-qui)-thank you

And I'm pretty sure that's it. I don't usually say these things yet because I feel pretty stupid because I'm pretty sure I'm not saying them right, but at least I know...right? Anyways I'll let you know how Moravia goes because I'm pretty sure unless I get lost or stuck in a tram tomorrow is going to be rather boring. =)

  1. Love the pix KT!! That winery guy looks like he's pretty happy with the job he has and your school looks like a chateau. The language thing will come and you will be a pro. We will be thinking warm thoughts of you and praying for more exciting trips with nothing stuck in anything from here on out.
